THE SURGICAL TREATMENT OF AXILLARY OSMIDROSIS BY MODIFIED INABA¢¥S METHOD




Abstract
The principle of operative management of osmidrosis axillae is surgical removal of axillary sweat glands. The authors reviewed 52 patients who had treated osmidrosis axillae by use of Inaba¢¥s subcutaneous tissue shaver from 1986 to 1988, and were followed up more than 1 year from the department of plastic surgery, Kylingbook National University School of Medicine. The results were as follows
There were 41 females and I 1 males.
The age of the patients ranged from 14 years to 54 years with the mean age of 22 years.
There was no recurrence of objective axillary odor and axillary sweating was decreased remarkable. Although there were ore skin necrosis, two wound dehiscence, and one hypertrophic scar, the scars of the wounds were generally fine due to small incision following the skin creases.
There was no limitation of motion of arms.
Axillary skin was slightly hyperpigmented for 6 months and then returned slowly to normal color.
The apocrine glands of axillae were rarely seen in post-operative histologic findings.
